The brief was for a low energy house that blends into the plot and with the innovative use of materials without stark modernity. The garden was to be an extension of the house and to blend into the landscape. The concept for the building was to place it within the woodland setting to respond to the immediate environment, without unnecessary removal of trees.

The building is positioned so that the main roof pitch faces south to allow the future installation of solar panels and the tree house sits on stilts to reduce the building footprint.

An Air source heat pump with hot water under floor heating system with highly insulated walls to reduce heat loss. Passive solar design with large openings facing south and high levels of natural light & natural ventilation.
